This major tertiary and training Hospital is expanding a department to provide specialist geriatric medicine services. This includes falls/musculoskeletal, dementia, ortho-geriatric and community geriatric medicine services. As a member department of the Discipline of Medicine, University of Adelaide, the department runs a 4 and a half week geriatric medicine teaching program for 5th year MBBS students. The hospital is also accredited for advanced training in geriatric medicine. There is an ageing research program at the hospital. The Consultant will be expected to contribute to the clinical, teaching and research (quality assurance) activities of the department. The consultant will also contribute to service development.
Specific details:
· Although initially based at one hospital, the Geriatrician may be required to work in any site of the Central Northern Adelaide Health Service. This is especially relevant as regional positions within regional programs emerge.
· Must be prepared to all clinical activities in various settings- acute, clinics, sub-acute and community.
· Must be prepared to attend relevant meetings and staff development / education activities as required.
· A formal performance appraisal will be conducted annually.
· Out of hours and weekend work may be required.
· Travel may be required.
· It is expected that part-time consultants will work at a minimum to 0.5FTE.
· Where the incumbent is a part-time employee, must be prepared work flexibly to a negotiated roster in keeping with the needs of the service. For instance, when on ward service, the incumbent may have to increase the clinical fraction to 0.6 FTE and it is expected that work commitments at other times of the year will be reduced to accommodate this change. The incumbent will accommodate established ward rosters during this time.
